All Aquarium plants thrive when grown in AQUA SOIL® . All the necessary nutrients such as Iron and Phosphorus which are vital to healthy plant growth have been pre-combined with the soil.

Benefits

AQUA SOIL clears aquarium water and provides good water conditions for the healthy growth of aquatic plants. Its colloid particles capture dirt floating in the water and without any chemical treatment it decreases the hardness of the water and lowers the pH level to a degree at which most aquatic plants can grow confortably. AQUA SOIL is composed of granules of the size and density ideal for fast development of healthy plants root systems.

We advise you to replace your existing gravel with AQUA SOIL to see immediate results in the health and vitality of your aquarium plants. You can use AQUA SOIL to recreate an a small part of Amazonia in your own living space.

This ideally balanced soil allows your create an aquascape depicting the fertile South American rainforest with the dynamic alternation of rainy and dry seasons. Discus, Angels, catfish, Freshwater Shrimp and other tropical fish will love the new environment you have created for them and will thrive with all the oxygen being produced from your plants.

Foundation for your Freshwater Planted Aquarium

UP-Aqua AQUA SOIL is the ideal substrate for creating a Freshwater Planted Aquarium which contains fine foreground carpeting plants such as Hemianthus callitrichoides (HC) or Glossostigma (Glosso).

HC

These finely rooted plants cannot be easily grown in a normal gravel or sand, so it is best to use AQUA SOIL which is a nutrient-rich substrate. This substrate also gives these fine plants the necessary nutrients in order to thrive. You will see a faster growth rate and a thicker carpet sooner.  AQUA SOIL also allows you to easily create the desired foundation depth.

When planting in the aquarium, small bunches of Glosso or HC should be planted deeply at intervals of 1-2cm.

Iwagumi Aquascapes

This product is a must for any Aquscaping Artist who envisages creating a Iwagumi tank as shown below:

Iwagumi Aquascape

Iwagumi Aquascapes are a subset of the Nature Aquarium style, pioneered by Takashi Amano. Based of Japanese gardening principles, Iwagumi literally means "rock formation." Rocks form the structure of Japanese gardens, and so in an iwagumi aquascape, rocks play a major role. Also, how these rocks are placed and how many of them there are is also very important. Many different styles of iwagumi have been adapted to the aquarium, but the overall theme is that of tranquility and simplicity

The most common iwagumi style is called sanzon iwagumi. Sanzon means "three pillar" in Japanese and these aquascapes make use of three rocks, with two smaller rocks and one larger rock. According to JAANUS, this term was first used in the 11th century Japanese garden treatise "Sakuteiki."

The grouping of stones comes from Buddhism; the central stone is called the chuusonskei (or the big Buddha) and the smaller flanking stones are called kyoujiseki (or attendant stones). The kyoujiseki are often tilted or pointed towards the chuusonskei as if bowing down to it. The chuusonskei is almost always positioned according to the Golden Mean.

Iwagumi aquascaped aquariums often have one single type of carpeting plant (often Glosso, Hair Grass, or HC) and one single species of schooling fish (most commonly rummynose tetras, cardinal tetras, or harlequin rasboras). This adds to the feeling of simplicity in the aquascape.

Comparison to other Aquarium Soils on the market

UP-Aqua AQUA SOIL is currently the leading and most effective Aquarium Soil in the market at a fraction of the price of other brands. We have independantly tested this product with other brands of Aquarium Soil on the market and have found that AQUA SOIL performs better than these products, in terms of:

  • Aquarium Plant Growth Rate
  • Leaf colour
  • Resistance to algae plagues
  • Overall plant health
  • Resistance to disease
  • Aquarium water quality and clarity

Since this product contains colloid particles, aquariums which use this substrate have clearer and much cleaner water than ones which use other brands of substrate/aquarium soil.
